Many people aren’t great at push ups… it’s because they are just trying to “do more push-ups” or skipping out on them because they aren’t good at them. Push-ups are hard! I would say that a full, hands-and-toes-on-the-floor attempt is ADVANCED! Even hands elevated is hard


Any strength program has to meet you where you are, build a solid foundation and progress accordingly… oh and some accountability and coaching helps, too. This push up program will give you that foundation with accountability and coaching from a Doctor of Physical Therapy.

What was your main struggle with push-ups? 

Well, pretty much everything, but I really struggled with good form and getting in more than a few reps. I’ve always hated push-ups and felt that I don’t do them well.

What are you most happy about? 

My form is so much better — I can even get my chest to the ground and I couldn’t do that before this program. I’m working on building my reps up and now that I’ve improved, I really don’t hate them as much. Maybe I’ll even love push-ups….someday!

I’m Loni, Doctor of Physical Therapy. I own Infinite Potential Physical Therapy and Wellness, located in Hingham, MA. I treat clients with all sorts of pain and help them achieve their goals.

I never knew how much went into getting a good push-up. I’ve been able to do at least 3-5 in a row for the past 4-5 years… That being said, after I was able to apply the proper training, I got much more efficient and could do many more in a row.

Who knew that core strength was a HUGE part of being able to do a push up. Once I implemented more core training, my push ups got better. At this point, if they were to come up in a workout I would be psyched because they are now my strong suit.

The funny thing is, I also have a long history with shoulder pain on both sides. The stronger my push-up game got to be, the less likely I was to have the shoulder pain flare-ups.

    Yes! Our program finds your starting point based on your abilities and builds a solid foundation around any level.

What was your main struggle with push-ups before we started working on them?

My main struggle with doing a push up has been understanding that it is a full body exercise and not only an exercise for my arms. I had thought FOREVER that my arms just couldn’t hoist up the rest of my body. 

What are you most happy about with what you can now do with push-ups?

Realizing that the push up is a way for the body to work together to get me off the ground, it requires my core, my breath, my legs, and my arms has been a game changer. Teaching my body to work together towards a common goal is also a mental practice of focus. Any exercise that is training my mind and body is a win win.
