General FAQ’s
What is Physical Therapy?

Physical therapy is a service provided by a clinician whom holds the knowledge to be considered as primary care physician for pain. They understand the human body, can identify conditions appropriate for treatment, and triage what is not. PT can be seen as a full-body check up to address painful conditions without the use of pain medication, surgeries or injections.

What if I am not in pain?

PT is also service provided to those whom are not only in need of pain relief, but for those who want to improve their movement performance. A physical therapist will identify your limitations and provide you with the knowledge and understanding of how to manage them. Throughout the course of care, you will learn how to perform techniques to address your symptoms and improve your mobility for life-long progress.

If you want to move well, become stronger, gain mobility, and prevent injury, then you are appropriate for treatment from IPPT. We provide services that are for injury prevention and recovery! Read more about this topic HERE.

How frequently will I be seen?

The typical course of physical therapy treatment is once weekly for about 6 weeks. Depending on the condition at hand, the visit frequency and length of care are subject to change. If you are a performance care athlete, treatment sessions are on an as needed basis.

What should I have in preparation for the first appointment?

Please fill out the intake forms sent to you via email the day you booked your appointment. Also, please either bring or wear loose and comfortable clothing, shorts are preferred, and workout shoes. Women, please wear a tank top and a sports bra.

In order to be treated, is a physician’s prescription required?

MA state law does not require patients to have an MD prescription for physical therapy treatment. However, your insurance company may require you obtain an MD prescription if you plan to file for reimbursement.

Do you accept insurance?

IPPTW is considered an out-of-network provider. While insurance is not processed directly, and payment is due at the time of service, patients may submit claims to their insurance company directly. IPPTW bills using usual PT codes and will make sure clients receive the documentation necessary to receive the maximum reimbursement available. Patients are advised to contact their insurance companies to find out what their benefits are for outpatient out-of-network physical therapy. Additionally, all physical therapy services can be paid for via Health Savings Account and/or Flexible Spending Accounts. Please email or call to inquire about rates and programs.

What happens in the case that I need to move an appointment?

24 hours/1 business day notice is required in writing via email or by voice mail for all appointment changes. When you schedule an appointment with IPPTW, that time is reserved solely for you. When an appointment is missed without giving advanced notice, the therapist does not have the opportunity to offer that time to someone else in need of services. Missed appointments also interfere with a client’s progress in treatment.

To ensure that IPPTW best meets the needs of all clients, it is our policy that patients are responsible for all appointments that they have scheduled. Patients who choose not to attend, or those who call to move their appointments at the last minute, are still responsible for these appointment times and session cost.

The following rescheduling policy is in place for all appointments. Extenuating circumstances and special situations will be reviewed on an individual basis per the discretion of IPPTW.
